Project description:
The municipality of Muscat was aiming to improve knowledge and awareness on bio-safety in their laboratories. Microbiological laboratories are special, often unique work environments that may pose identifiable infectious disease risks to persons in or near them. Infections have been contracted in the laboratory throughout the history of microbiology. Biological laboratories in which bio-risks are inappropriately managed and the staff and environment exposed to bio-safety risks represent a threat to the community and public health. Published reports around the world described laboratory associated cases of typhoid, cholera, brucellosis, and tetanus. A number of cases were attributed to carelessness or poor technique in the handling of infectious materials.
